Kyocera Corporation (formerly known as Kyoto Ceramic Co., Ltd.) is a Japanese company founded in 1959, specialising in ceramic and electronic components, photovoltaic cells, office equipment and mobile phones. Its founder, Kazuo Inamori, is the creator of the Kyoto Prize.
In 1983, the company invented the ceramic knife. Initially a commercial failure, it became popular throughout the world in the 2010s.
Kyocera’s main products include printers, photocopiers and photovoltaic panels. By merging with Mita, Kyocera will create a division specialising in document management, Kyocera Document Solutions, which has held a 100% stake in Germany’s Triumph-Adler since 2010.
